Job Summary:   Provide strategic direction by collaboratively developing, staffing and executing a cost effective & sustainable global Safety Management System (ISO45001) and Environmental Management system (ISO14001) that supports Kalsec’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Strategy.  Responsible for aligning the EHS strategy that drives EHS accountability globally. The position will at times, require hands-on project execution to accomplish objectives.


 


 


Essential Job Functions:


1. Create and lead a global Safety Management System that covers all Kalsec employees and operations that achieves ISO45001 3rd party accreditation, including Process Safety Management for Kalamazoo manufacturing. 


2. Create a global Environmental Management System that covers all Kalsec processes, employees and operations that achieves ISO14001 3rd party accreditation. 


3. Develop organization, staff and programs to achieve a less than 1.0 recordable incident rate for global manufacturing operations and a cultural belief that all incidents are avoidable. 


4. Directs & develops staff globally to maximize internal promotion opportunities for positions with EHS responsibilities. 


5. Improve, develop and transparently communicate EHS measurements and performance metrics. 


6. Develop, justify, execute and report variances for EHS budget working cross-functionally with employee safety teams, department leaders and senior management.


7. Working with global leadership and with dotted line relationships for EHS, assure EHS programs, at a minimum, meet regulatory requirements for the localities, regions, countries where Kalsec does business. 


8. Attend monthly director level meeting, reporting EHS informational metrics & progress, highlight celebrations & hot spots, and bring forward policies and global topics for discussion. 


 


Education/Experience/Skills: 


Required: 


 Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in scientific area (Environmental Engineering, Environmental Sciences, Food Science, Chemical Engineering or equivalent) from a four-year college or university.


 Minimum 5 years’ experience in manufacturing environment leading environmental and behavior based safety programs.


 Personable, influential skills at all levels of the organization, including union, open shop & non-union work environments. 


 Experience managing Clean Air Act, Title V air permitting, Clean Water Act, RCRA, PIPP, SPCC. 


 Experience with environmental reporting SARA Title III Tier II, TRI and State emissions reporting systems


 Ability to assure strict compliance with EHS regulatory requirements, while building employee engagement. 


 Ability to leverage use of Microsoft tools (Office365, Excel, Powerpoint, Visio,Word) to deliver and communicate EHS metrics & progress.


 Ability to communicate verbally and in writing at all levels inside and outside the organization.


 Ability to communicate and influence senior management on EHS compliance & CSR strategic initiatives.


 Demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects, prioritize work and meet deadlines.


 Strong focus on skill and knowledge development for department and global operations to improve EHS knowledge, engagement.


 Demonstrated knowledge of Federal and State regulations related to Process Safety Management (US-OSHA PSM 29 CFR 1910.119) and PSM safety and risk assessment tools (HAZOP, What-if, FMEA, etc).


 Ability to work extended hours beyond normal work schedule to include, but not limited to evenings, weekends, extended shifts, and/or extra shifts; sometimes on short notice.


 Ability to work under specific time constraints. 


 


Desired: 


 Masters degree in Business, Safety, Environmental or Sustainability


 Experience leading safety programs in a less than 1.0 Recordable Incident rate organization.


 Chemical Safety Professional (CSP)


 Experience implementing ISO45001 &/or ISO14001 management systems.


 Experience with land application related regulations
